Podcasts / Technology in Education
Several thoughts came to mind after reading the articles about podcasting and iPod technology in education. I would have liked to listen to the first article on an iPod instead of reading it multiple times for understanding. If I had not learned about this new teaching with iPod technology, then I would not have wanted to do this. I find it interesting how the iPod is being used by some colleges as a teaching and learning tool. I would have never thought that would happen.
After reading the articles, I believe there could be some great benefits to combining this technology use with in-class learning at the college level. When I was earning my undergraduate I had the "old technology", the microcassette recorder. When I listened to the lectures again, it helped me learn better. So with a better quality technology, the iPod, I can see how it would be of great benefit. With my old microcassette recorder, the process was slow and tedious. Reliability was an issue as well; sometimes the tapes would not work correctly. Now with the lectures on an iPod, students could listen and learn while doing other things, like going to the gym. I like the benefits of combining the technology of iPod with the normal class routine. However, I truly hope that technology does not replace the college professor altogether, since this is my future career goal.
